Melissa has spent the past 14 years teaching in the undergraduate Bachelor of Nursing and Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing programs and the postgraduate Master of Nursing programs both in Canada and Australia. Melissa has taught traditional face-to-face, theory and laboratory on-campus courses, as well as in distance and online courses and programs. Over the 14 years of academic teaching experience, both as a Lecturer and an Assistant Professor, Melissa, has developed and taught many courses in general nursing, education, mental health and communications. Melissa also served as the faculty and clinical coordinator for the undergraduate nursing program. Most recently, Melissa undertook a university funded project to create and enhance the student ambassador program, mental health and wellness resources and student supports, develop the student engagement community and the online student resource centre in both the capacity as project lead, student engagement, marketing and outreach coordinator.
Melissa comes to AU with a background in emergency nursing as Registered Nurse as well as a lengthy background in mental health and psychiatric nursing clinical fields having worked in Child and Adolescent, Addictions, Acute Mental Health, Community Mental Health, Forensics' and Crisis Mental Health practice areas. Melissa spent three months in 2016 In Fort McMurry as part of the Wildfires Crisis Mental Health Recovery team to support the community and health care teams during and post this significant event.
